Inspiration 🦋

This song was inspired by Pablo Neruda’s “Ode to the Butterfly.” In the poem, a cloud of butterflies darkens the sky, damaging the crops below. A man witnesses the harm and cries out: “You shall not attack man and his legacy, the peasant and his animals.”

His fierce defense of humanity’s legacy made the songwriter pause and reflect: Is our shared legacy today something to be proud of?

From that question, My Spell was born — a small spell of renewal, a reimagining of who we are and who we can become.

Esta canción fue inspirada por el poema de Pablo Neruda “Oda a la mariposa”, escrito en la década de 1950. En el poema, un hombre cabalga con un amigo por las amplias llanuras de Argentina — con las montañas a lo lejos — cuando una nube de mariposas oscurece el cielo, casi tapando el sol. Atraviesan los campos, dejando las cosechas en ruinas, y el jinete, alarmado por la devastación, alza la voz contra ellas: «No deben atacar al hombre y su legado, al campesino y a sus animales». Al leer esto, la autora de la canción se sintió conmovida por su defensa del legado del hombre y se preguntó: ¿Es el legado de la humanidad algo de lo que me sienta orgullosa hoy? La respuesta fue “no” — y así nació esta canción, lanzando un hechizo de renovación y de reimaginación de nuestro legado compartido.

В стихотворении мужчина мчится верхом с другом по широким равнинам Аргентины — с горами вдалеке — когда туча бабочек заслоняет небо, почти закрывая солнце. Они проносятся над полями, оставляя урожай в руинах, и всадник, поражённый разрушением, поднимает голос против них: «Вы не должны нападать на человека и его наследие, на крестьянина и его животных». Прочитав это, автор песни была потрясена его защитой наследия человека и спросила себя: горжусь ли я сегодня наследием человечества? Ответ был «нет» — и так родилась эта песня, сотворившая заклинание обновления и переосмысления нашего общего наследия.
